Film Society Designates Interim Managing Director
The Key West Film Society/Tropic Cinema today announced that Mark Slater will be taking up the position of Managing Director for the next six months. For the past six years, Mr. Slater has been a Board member of the Film Society and serving as its secretary. He now working as a screenwriter but has had a long career in the retail business and has managed other non-profits. "Mark brings a great skill set to us, combined with extensive knowledge of the Tropic, its operations and its staff," said Film Society Chair Matthew Helmerich. "He's just the man we need to coordinate the theater through the upcoming busy season and help take us to the next level."
Slater's responsibilities will include supervising and coordinating the work of the existing staff, all of whom will remain in place, developing marketing and outreach efforts to expand attendance at the theater, fund-raising, and exploring possibilities for film festivals. During his interim tenure the Film Society will be conducting a search for a permanent Managing Director.
