Tropic Cinema Commemorative Art Wall
"Silver Screen"
Commissioned Sculpture by Susan Rodgers

As a special feature of our fund-raising efforts for the Tropic Cinema, we asked internationally recognized artist (and Film Society member) Susan Rodgers to design a work of art that could incorporate the names of contributing donors.  Susan agreed to do so and to contribute her work to the Film Society.

Her basic sculpture has been completed and is hanging in the Tropic Cinema.  It consists of a series of 89 half-inch aluminum rods suspended from a free-hanging metal frame.

Ms. Rodgers will affix the names of contributing donors to these rods using individual raised aluminum letters, so that the rods will be free to move and impart dynamism to the names. The overall effect will evoke a movie “silver screen” with credits rolling.

This sculpture will contain only the names of persons contributing specifically to the “Tropic Cinema Art Wall.” A contribution of $1,000 is required to qualify for inclusion on the Silver Screen.  If you have already contributed to the Tropic Theater Fund at this level and wish your contribution to qualify for the Art Wall rather than some other purpose (such as a seat plaque) please let us know.  We will be happy to include you retroactively.
